Motels & Hotels

Motels have become increasingly recognized all over America as well as in foreign countries. As the competition increases they are becoming more luxurious and actually taking place of luxury hotels. The larger motels that are part of national chains are equipped with every facility for the travelers comfort and pleasure including, sun bathing areas, swimming pools, spas, etc. There was a time where it was a must that every motel room had a television set and every motel was different. Some even had a drive-in movie directly behind the motel. You could have sat in the comfort of your bed, waited until the sun set and watched a movie.

Some advantages of choosing a motel instead of a hotel are that a majority of them are on the outskirts of towns or between cities, you don't have to be in heavy urban traffic to reach them. There is usually no problem with parking your car which could be left right by your unit or room. Especially important for women is the fact that, unless she travels alone, she need not be seen at all on arrival. Therefore, anything she wears that is comfortable for her when driving would obviously not be seen when walking through a hotel lobby. At a motel, you can pay for the night on arrival and leave the next morning. There are, of course, certain disadvantages to motels. There is rarely any room service except in the most luxurious resort type. Chain motels usually have a restaurant on the premises but if you are staying at a smaller motel then might have to go little distance to find a nice restaurant. There will probably be little entertainment so you would be better off in a hotel in the heart of a city if that is what you are looking for.

The business traveler arriving by plane or train naturally chooses a hotel in the center of town, near the offices of the companies where they must visit. Hotels will never be replaced by motels because of their central locations in most cities and the services that they offer. Tourists usually wish to be in a central location where they can easily navigate to a certain point of interest whether it be a museum or a historical site. Many people will never forsake the convenience and excellence of the services offered in first-class hotels. In order to assure accommodations in a hotel you must call or write in advance to the hotel to reserve a room.

Hotel Manners

It is against the rules of every reputable hotel for a guest to have a visitor of the opposite sex in a bedroom without first speaking to the desk clerk and then leaving the door ajar. Noisy parties, visitors at unconventional hours or anything suggesting questionable behavior is not permitted in any high-class hotel. There is no reason why a young and pretty woman can't stay at a hotel by herself and have men come to see her and be invited by her to lunch or to dine. It isn't so much of a question of suitable age than it is of suitable behavior. It is always proper for a woman to wear a hat in a restaurant if she wishes. She may go into the dinning room without one if she is staying at the hotel. In the evening, if she is dressed in evening clothes, then she does not wear a hat. When going to visit a friend or people stopping at a hotel you ask for them at the desk, you can either go up to see them at their room or if the friends your visiting say they are coming down you can wait by the lobby or lounge by the elevators, until they join you.
