Etiquette: The Movies, Circuses, Ice Shows & Rodeos
The Basics: Movies, Circuses, Ice Shows & Rodeos
The excitement of being at a rodeo!
Were you ever at an event such as a Rodeo where the person next to you was yelling and cheering on his favorite rider so loud that you thought he or she would burst your eardrums? How about stumbling over the stairs and embarrassing yourself at the movies because you didn't see where you were going? I know I have fallen victim in that particular situation at the movies. Generally speaking, an evening at the movies is a lot less formal than an evening at the theater. Unless you are attending a premier or a special performance of a film then casual wear is encouraged. Although “casual” must be determined depending on the location of the movie theater it is proper to wear slacks in the country, with a stop at your local ice-cream shop, but they would be quite out of place in the city, especially should your other half suggest going dancing afterward. I once fell victim stumbling over stairs at the movies, never again, make sure to wait at the rear until your eyes have become adjusted to the darkness. In this situation one would be late to the movie, avoid being late, this is inconsiderate for the audience. I’m sure that everyone at one point witnessed others making noise during the movie or chattering. Be generous to those around you to avoid confrontation with people in the audience.
No matter how much you want to....shhhh! Turn off your phone too!
On the other hand, the consideration of
others in the audience at such events as a circus, ice show, or a rodeo is
unrestricted. Clothing to such events will be based entirely on the weather.
One rule however about clothing that should be followed, is that a very young
woman should not wear shorts to summer performances, nor slacks in the winter.
At any of the shows where it is not necessary to hear the performers, the
audience may, of course, talk as much as they please. But in spite of all this
informality, you must remember, don’t draw attention to yourself. At the
theater, avoid being late to the event as it is disturbing and rude to the
people that have arrived on time.
