Buyer Beware: Littala porcelain made in Thailand NOT Finland.

Misrepresentation of country of origin - shame on you, Littala!

Iitala "Taika" Bowl

I have a friend who collects Iittala porcelain - which are a little bit on the busy side, but look nice when mixed with other items.  She had the Iitala (pronounced like "Italy" but instead of the 'y' but an a - I-TAL-A) "Taika" set which can be seen in all its' glory on their website .  For those who don't feel like going to their site, it's all Finnish, with lots of their unpronounceable Finnish designer names, like Haapaniemi.

There's one thing though - throughout the entire site, even in the FAQ, it doesn't state where the country of origin is, only that it seems like they are made in Finland.  When I went to Amazon, it seemed everyone who wrote about Iittala stated, incorrectly, they were "Made in Finland" -

This is the story:

For Christmas, I decided to buy as a gift eight pasta bowls (two sets of four) and eight matching plates for a total of about $400.00 -

When the boxes arrived from Iittala, I wanted to wrap it, so I took the two stickers off, one was an inventory sticker and another was an item number sticker.  Then I did a double-take...WHAT?

Made in WHERE?  THAILAND?!?

Imagine my surprise when I saw a "Made in Thailand" sticker on the box.  What happened to this "Made in Finland" stuff?  I was disgusted.  Not only because I bought something that cost at most $2 to $3 to make but also I thought these items were made in Finland as many reviewers like Ann Bieri wrote in her Amazon review of the Taika dinnerware:

"Taika dinnerware is made in Finland of durable porcelain for everyday use, and is safe in the oven, microwave, freezer, and dishwasher." --Ann Bieri

On the bottom of each bowl does not state country of origin

Maybe I didn't see right, I thought to myself, and opened the box and pulled out a bowl for myself to take a look, and there was no mark anywhere. Is this legal?

To anyone out there looking to purchase Iittala , think TWICE - you are NOT getting what you are paying for!  I will pay for the workmanship of Finnish hands - because I have an idea of what things cost in Northern Europe, but to charge made in Finland prices for made in Thailand, is unacceptable.

Shame on you, Iittala!
